Cites and architecture have followed the process of evolution age by age. This purpose of this class is to study about the transformation of cites and architecture from the classical period to the modern age and to learn architectural vocabulary and spatial language as well as to understand historical process of cities. This class will provide the knowledge about architectural styles and details, the understanding on technological background such as materials and construction methods, and the analytical method of drawings both for architecture and city planning. Also from the view-point of cultural heritage, canonical architectural works will be discussed while their conservation method is studied. Case studies on Japanese and foreign cities and architecture will be the key to accelerate the understanding of students in this field.
