SOCIAL SECURITY POLICY(DISASTER) 2013
Lecturer : Satoko OKI
The Tohoku earthquake of March 11th, 2011 may have activated the seismic activity in Japan. In fact, its aftershocks and triggered earthquakes are still very active in the eastern Japan, and so is observed in Indonesia after the 2004 Sumatra earthquake. Having Asian regions as even more disaster prone countries, what is really necessary to mitigate disasters? In this lecture course, we focus on individual risk perception or literacy rather than governmental strategy for disaster prevention. We have weighted on giving scientific knowledge in Japan, but here we examine the existing education system, and take into account psychology, disaster informatics as well as Earth science to develop or design substantive systems for disaster mitigation.
